hey i didnt get much luck with this post on another bit so ill try it here,i like oddballs and have a few wierd things but need a little info,
1-ive got some semaprochilodus taeniurus in a few good books ive read they say there peaceful schooling fish but mine fight with each ova all the time,
2-ive got a toad fish what make good tankmates for him in a 36x18x18?
3- also i got some acnodon normani can n e 1 tell me anything from personall experience of these? ive read a bit but ive not got n e personal experience,

For the semaprochilodus taeniurus, what size tank are they in? Peaceful fish will fight if kept in tight quarters, and for a fish that gets to 12 inches, anything less than about a 90 will be cramped for more than 2-3.

The toad fish I am familiar with is SW, and will eat anything it can fit into it's huge mouth--so the only safe tankmates are very large fish, or fish that have defenses like puffers and scorpian fish. Some species of toad fish can get very large. If your isn't in SW, you should start making the change. They are often sold as FW fish, because they are found in estuaries as juveniles, but migrate to full marine as adults.


No personal experience with acnodon normani-tiger pacu, but they seem to be similar to the Silver prochilodus, except they get bigger.
 
my prochilodus are 3" long and were in a 400litre 5x2x20ish but still fight, thanx for the toadfish info though its giving me a push to move into marine, ive been looking for that,
are u sure the acnodon getter bigger then prochilodus as in most books ive read it says only 4-6" but in 1 or 2 places it says 16"
 
The info comes from FishBase, which is normally fairly accurate. Smaller sizes on many fish are often printed when the fish taken are juveniles or are based on the size of stunted aqaurium specimens. If the fish are being kept in small tanks, they won't get large, but that doesn't mean that's their correct adult size. Best advice--err on the side of caution. A tank bigger than required doesn't hurt fish.
