Interesting ideas

Let's see if we can come up with some interesting ideas on what to add to this aquarium.

Tank specs:
31 gallon aquarium (roughly 32"x13"x17")
Penguin 330 filter
Tronic 200 watt heater (70 degrees)
Bare bottom with a few fake long decorations with plants
Tank has been established for about five months
pH 7.8, gh 100ppm, kh 90ppm
The tank has eight male platies

I have been thinking of adding a group of white clouds or zebra danios. Perhaps you can come up with something that has never crossed my mind.

I boiled some small terra cotta pots (new) and hubby used drimmel tool to cut the bottom out of two of them. I then sanded down the sharp edges until very smooth and used aquarium silicone to glue them together in a nice cave arrangement. They look nice in my office 5g hex, and the fish love to hide in and swim through them. Clients comment on how cute they are. I also planted java fern and some other light green leafy aquatic plant (that I don't know the name of) around them...it will look great when the plants fill out.

Sorry....I have no suggestion for fish. lol

Java fern is good, I plan on getting some for this tank also. Anyone have any livestock related ideas?

I have considered upgrading it to a longer tank and adding some male swordtails.

how about a ruby shark for the bottom?

I forgot to mention that I can't really put bottom feeders in the tank at the moment. The reason is because it sits on the floor for now (too low to get a good siphon going), and I have a powerhead an inch or so off the bottom that I turn on for an hour or so before water changes so the filter can get the waste. When I have it on, the water really moves down there, and I think most bottom feeders would have a hard time with the current. Perhaps a pleco or something that likes a swift current, but I think this may even be too much for that. Also, IMO rainbow sharks get a bit big for this size tank.

Same problem with the current, only this time at the top. The penguin 330 makes quite a swift current. African butterfly fish tend to like a calm surface (and may possibly eat the platies).

Consider a hillstream loach too, they like low temps and fast current, as long as they have rocks to hide behind.

They like the current on a continuous basis, not just an hour before a water change.
