Internal or external hardware?

I am going to have a tank made - or make it myself - that will measure 30" by 30" by 23". I am thinking of putting a partition in the tank near the back that will create a 3" compartment in the back of the tank. My reason for doing this is so that I can put the filtering system inside the tank and even a uv filter. This way water does not need to leave the tank at all to get filtered - no chances of leaks. Is this a good idea?

Thats how I did it on the 225gal plywood tank I just built, works out great and you can't see any equipment when you're viewing the tank. Plus, its less stuff for the turtle to break in my case.

Thanks! Yes, the main reason why I wanted to do this is for aesthetic purposes, to hide all the plumbing.
