Intersting way to raise your kids...

I see a future of problems as he gets older. I was around too many guys who had such undesirable attitudes because of their physical strengths. Will that kid ever be happy with how big he gets, or will he continue to try to get stronger to the point of it being dangerous?

I only hope I'm wrong, about it being a bad future for him. There are so many examples in our society of what happens to youngsters, who are in the limelight, when they get older. Too many bad ones.

Labont and nursie make good points though. To some extent at least, he's doing it because he wants to. I think that martial arts is a very good thing for a kid with such gifts of strength since, most at least, are deeply steeped in the mantra of 'do not fight unless you must' and also teach body control so that if he 'must' than he can do it without killing someone.

I hear you though Lila, bodybuilders are the male equivalent of the girl with the eating disorder. I say 'girl' because that's the stereotype, not because guys don't get eating disorders as well. Continually trying to be bigger, have better tone, lose body fat, etc. and there's always someone just a little better.

I too agree Lila but again only to an extent. As Happychem said, Any good martial arts school teaches you that the only places to use your skill is in the ring or in self-defence. They teach you how to center yourself, and teach you self-control and peace of mind. Most people who take their martial art seriously are very down to earth and are some of the calmest most in-control people you will ever meet.

Nursie:I have been very "cut' in my past and it was simply due to the fact I spent two hours in the gym and another hour and a half at kickboxing every day except sundays. I got myself down to 2.1% body fat and was in great shape until I got in a car accident. So to say steroid use is there is not necessarily true. You have to remember how many steroids the average human takes in everyday now just due to the foods that you eat. I have a cousin who is on an inhaler and plays hockey those two mixed together and he looks like a juice monkey. Just saying that it is more likely to see people that are bigger and really cut as it was say 30-40 years ago. Also people dont tend to have the patience to do it naturally, that is why they resort to steroid use. This kid has been doing this for 6 years. I am just saying that this kid is much more likely to be completely natural.
And the comment of the parents meeting their unmet aspirations through their kids is very true I have seen it over and over and over again. But I dont think this is the case in this particular situation. Both his parents are known worldwide for winning fitness comps., Martial Arts comps., and lots of other things. I think they have just brought their child into their lives and are sharing their interestes with him, I agree it was a little young, but I dont think it is them trying to achieve their goals through him.

Kids that young do not have the natural hormone production to build bulky muscles. They can do strength training that builds the long, aerobic muscle--but not the bulky stuff that kid is sporting. Sorry--I was engaged to a muscle builder for a while, and the things he would willingly do, just to get a better cut muscle were sickening. To encourage a kid that young to be physically active and involved in social activities is one thing--what those pictures shows is a whole different ball of wax. I wouldn't want my child to look like a freak--and to me, he does.

OG, you have to remeber that not everybody has the exact same bodies. In General they dont have the hormones to build that kind of muscle, but it doesnt mean it cant happen. Look at women who grow mustaches and facial hair. Womens bodies arent supposed to have enough teststerone to grow manly features and body hair like that, but it does happen. This kid is obviously a very unique individual. You also have to rmrber that it could very well be hereditary. I mean both his parents look absolutely incredible and obviously have naturally gifted bodies. I cant see them pumping steroids into their kid as if they did I dont think they would get this kind of recognition, they would more likely be charged with child abuse.

I can't help but think that society views such kids as he as something great when its just the thing his parents put him up to. there are kids that start piano or violin at a very early age and we look at that as something wonderful.

But there's a difference. First of all, piano is an art. Body building is just another example of our society's vain obsession with appearance. I think bodybuilding is more in the category of modelling than it is in the category of piano. A child just shouldn't be subjected to caring about how he/she looks.

Second of all, this is just obsessive! I mean, if a parent was making their kid do that much with piano, well I wouldn't think it was so wonderful! Moderation is key, and that's what appears to be lacking in this story...

His parents did not force any of this on him, they let him try things and if he liked then he would do it[....] And as long as it isnt forced on the child I dont think it can really do any harm.

To me it doesn't matter if this was forced on that kid or not, becuase a child doesn't always know what's best. That's what parents are for: to pick and choose between the different things the child wants. If a kid is interested in eating excrement, is that okay, since it was his idea in the first place?

I know a few reasons it happens with women, I am just saying that there are also women who have facial hair even when they are young, caused by a hormone imbalance. I have also read about men who have grown full breasts naturally due to hormone imbalances. I have seen people who have insanely high testosterone levels that have caused them to grow hair in places the you wouldnt imagine. I am just trying to point out that it isnt necessarily caused by steroids, it can happen naturally and that is why this kid is soo amazing.

Come on, eating excrement!? Grow up! None of this is necessarily causing any physical or mental harm. Second there is nothin wrong with being fit or taking martial arts. I have said That I agree it may have been a little young, but if the kid is mature enough and is interested in doing something that will not harm himself or others why stop him?

I remember reading an article a while ago in which some mutations in some of the structural proteins in muscle were mutated. This lead to increase size and definition in some people with little in the way of proper bodybuilding. I can't remember if this kid was specifically involved in the study.

I'm not saying bodybuilding is comparable to eating excrement: I was pointing out the fallacy in your argument.

Absolutely nothing wrong with being fit, or taking martial arts. IN MODERATION. I don't think the way this kid is training is healthy - physically, or mentally. How on earth could an 8 year old be "mature enough"? He's a kid! And lets not forget that he's entering competitions and being promoted by commercial companies - I don't think this is appropriate for anyone his age.
