Intersting way to raise your kids...

I'm not saying bodybuilding is comparable to eating excrement: I was pointing out the fallacy in your argument.

Actually that is exsactly what you said and did!

Basically you are saying that kids should not be promoted by commercial companies, right? So what about all these commercials featuring children and all the kids T.V. shows that are putting out young stars. Or how about the Olsen Twins who have one of the largest grossing companies in the world all based on them and their faces? I guess we should get rid of all of that eh!? This kid is being commercialized about his extraordinary talents, he isnt being commercialized as say "Use our equipement and your kids could look like this!" This child was not forced he was shown support. And sying the kid isnt matured enough to make his own desitions is totally wrong the kid is a freakin genious too, at 8 years old he has completed elementry and high school academics and already completed one year of university schooling! Obviously this kid isnt you average run of the mill child. I have never said this is good for all children I merely said that it isnt necessarily bad for the ones who have the ability. And this kid has the ability and more.

P.S. I think 30 minutes a day is pretty moderate. I work out for at least 2 hours everyday but sunday. And he only works one muscle group a day! I work two or three and have to full body work out days a week. I mean greanted he is a kid but it aint really that bad. Especially considering I see kids out playin soccer for hours upon hour everyday!

Look, I'm not interested in fighting, but I also have to defend myself: it is not exactly what I said and did. No, I don't think bodybuilding is as bad for you as eating poo: I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear earlier. My point is that to say "its okay, 'cuz he wasn't forced to do it" is a ridiculous argument. I attempted to demonstrate the ridiculousness through comparison.

Yes, I believe we should. It's exploitative, plain and simple.

Like I already wrote, the fact that the kid wasn't forced doesn't change anything: a kid doesn't know what's best for himself. Sometimes a child's ideas shouldn't be supported: they should be explained to him as wrong. Intellectual maturity and emotional maturity are NOT the same thing. Do you realize how many idiots have university degrees? The world is made up of idiots, for chrissakes. Maybe you think I'm one of them, that's fine, but note that I've completed more schooling as that kid has. Despite his school-smarts, the kid has still only lived in this world for 8 years: he can't possibly understand society, his own feelings - he needs moral and emotional guidance. This kid certainly does have the ability. Does that make the way his ability is being used okay? No.

I'm not trying to be a hardass. I don't think this is the worst thing I've seen or anything: from the article they sound like well-meaning, loving parents. But I still think they've made the wrong decisions.

NO NO i dont think you are an idiot at all, I am just arguing the point. I value your opinion I just didnt think your comparison was sound. I completely agree that this isnt something I necessarily agree with or would do, but I am not one to judge these people, or their parenting techniques as there is no evidence of it causing him any harm of any sort. If it was proved to cause him harm I would completely agree in stopping what they are doing, but the fact is that there is no evidence that shows it has. The bottom line this kid is a freak of nature(in a good way) And cant be compared to every other kid out there. It comparing apples to oranges, sure their both fruit but they are nothing alike. Some thing are good for some and not good for others and that just the way it is, I think if you tried to stop this kid from doing it you would cause him more harm than to just let him do something he loves and is good at and has become accustomed to. I just want to argue the other side of the debate since there is nobody else seeming to do it. And I have seen a few things about this kid before that werent touched on in this particular article.

Yes I agree everyone is different, is happy and healthy under different circumstances ... but within reason - because at the same time, everyone does live in the same world (and this is especially true when they live in the same society - we're all three of us North American). We're social beings. To compare one to another isn't "apples and oranges": our environments have significant effect on us as individuals, and what someone does/wants is always in context. This isn't something arising from his essential being or something: this is a kid living in our society.

But I never said anything about suddenly stopping him. Just because I think it shouldn't be this way doesn't mean I think it should be censored. It's more that all of us, at large, should be moving away from this kind of thing.

Fair enough - like what?

You have been arguing the whole time about how this type of thing should be stopped, so how can you say you arent saying that his parents should stop? You have clearly stated that you dont agree with what his parents are allowing to happen and that it should stop.

I think this quote pretty much backs up much of what I am saying!

And how bout comparing mac apples to spartan apples that work better for you?

Anyways there is no point in argueing as it isnt doing any good, you have your opinion and I have mine. I respect yours, and am glad you shared but I did have to argue mine, but I am tired now and dont want to argue anymore.

Peace!
