the females will defently be ok but the male might get a little agressive in a community tank specialy when there are females in the tank

Female and male bettas only live together when spawning, as far as I have read. Your gourami and the betta should not be together because they are both anabetids and will fight. the sword tails might cause problems if they are male and the betta is going after them. tetra's I have head to be fin nippers, and might get your betta. I don't think it can be with sharks if they are also aggressive.

www.bettaforums.com is one place to further research your set-up. bettas can go with fish like cory cats, loaches (but you have ot watch temperaments), mollies and other non- long-finned, peaceful fish. If the betta thinks it is another betta, it will probably attack. Females can be housed together in a larger set-up, like your 30 g.

when you do add your bettas to something, you have to set aside time to watch with net ready to remove fish if there is a problem. And keep an eye on your tank for a while after, to see that things don't build up aggression.

Well, not sure how the male and female betta would do....usually you don't keep them together except for as long as it takes to spawn...then the female comes out right afterward while the male cares for the eggs.

With a tank that long.....if it were mine...heck, I'd give it a try. If you keep a really good eye on things you would have time to remove someone if you had to. But I would think you would have to continue to be vigilant as far as the breeding condition of the females...things could get a bit ruff in there when they spawn. I think I would add even more plants though.

One thing I did notice about the tank that I'm not too sure about is the way you have it proped up on top of the wood blocks. I'm not sure how that will work out over the long haul with those pressure points in the middle there...but, I'm not an expert on that sort of thing...check it out with folks who would know better than me if that's ok or not.

Nice tank though ! :D

Thanks Ill check that link.
Im keeping an eye on them all.
I was thinking of puting the tank on a wood base similiar to the top so it would be supported all around its peremeter.

Well, day one and so far have one dead female swordtail and a dead gourami.
The gourami was half-dead anyway which leads me to think that the cause wasnt the betta anyway. MY prime suspect is the remaining gourami. Both victems had their tails severely nipped down. The gourami is well on the path to becoming racoon bait.

guess you should have kept both eyes on them.

I find bettas to have varied personalities. Some chase, some are chased, some are fine with other fish, and there's only one way to find out!
