As it only seems approoriate. ^_^

Hello. My SN here will be Kyohti. Feel free to call me Kyo. I have had an aquarium in home, sizes anywhere from 20-30 usually, since I was 11. Granted, I'm not the most diligent of care-takers, but I had success in breeding zebra danios and albino corydoras in my community tank when I was in my teens and my Junior and Senior year I successfully raised a small clutch of gunpowder veil-tail betta splendens to maturity (after more than a few attempts... those baby bettas are TRICKY!!)

I took a 3 year hiatus from the hobby and now that I've moved into a new apartment, I've set up a nice, neat little 10 gallon in which I've placed a newly purchased female Senegal Bichir whom I've lovingly dubbed 'Reptar'. I have a 35 gallon/long sitting dry in my spare room until I can gather the equipment to set it up, in which my 10 gallon in the kitchen would then become my pleasant little Tetras tank.

I'm thinking...
3-4 neon tetras
3-4 black tetras
1 zebra plecostamos?

For the 30 gallon, Reptar's potential home, I am up to advice on what to keep with her. I know that she potentially killed the small corydoras I had originally placed with her back when she was only 3.5 inches long. She's added an inch since then and is quite a hardy feeder. I'm trying to come up with tank mates for her that would survive her apetite and 'curious mouth'. I'd love to add a mega clown peckoltia to the 30 gallon setup for algae control. Other than that, I use small/mid-size gravel for substrate and prefer the use of artificial plants. I'm hoping to set up a nice little home for my favorite little jurassic fishy while she awaits my eventual purchase of a 55gal+ to continue my hobby with.

Other than that, I have an adoration and admiration for Marine Aquarium hobbyists and the difficulty and reward of their labors. If it weren't for the love of my Bichir, I'd probably have set up my eventual 55 as a saltie.

Regardless, I hope that I'll be able to be an amusing and perhaps even occasionally helpful addition to the community here. So hello and nice to meet you all. ^.^

^-^ I'm glad you think so.

What can I say? I've always loved aquariums for the sheer amount of stress-relief they provide me. I used to love the sound of the water, too... but somehow that ended up changing and I no longer like having an aquarium in my bedroom when I sleep. But I love having them in my apartment. I intend to have the 55 in the kitchen/diningroom so it can be viewed from the dinner table as a conversation piece.

The 36 will be in the kitchen until then, upon which it will be moved into the spare bedroom/computer nook. And my tiny ten will end up on the end table in the livingroom with my fake palm tree's branches draped over it. My livingroom is decorated in an African theme... but I think my neon idea will add a lovely touch of color and attention to the room that wouldn't otherwise be there. ^__^

Other than Reptar, I also have two blue/cream tabby cats (siblings Kalcifer and Stella) and a blue merle shetland sheepdog named Roxie.

It's a lot for a small 2b/2b apartment... but it keeps me company since my Mate is still trying to immigrate into the country and all... ^_^

Welcome to AC!

I didn't think the zebra plecostamos would be cheap. Otherwise, everyone would have them little beauties runnin' around in their tanks!!

*sigh*... But they are sooo attractive and I'd love to have one in my aquarium someday. A gal can have her dreams, can't she? ^_^;;

I've been harassed by a few folks so far for my aquarium practices (should've expected as much since I'm an amatuer... but YEESH! People could be a little nicer and perhaps more open to other people's opinions : / )

Otherwise, I do feel welcome here. Thanks!! ^-^

well, hello! i'm gonna breed fish also. mebbe we could give eachother tips (u'd probably do most of the 'tipping'), and we could become buds!
