Introduction / 125 Gallon Terrarium Build

Bump ...

So I have got a few things to finish on this canopy. I am now post surgery and looks like I will be in this errector set for about two years.

Anyway, back to the canopy ...

I will want to paint the inside gloss white ...

Should I use oil base paint or spray enamel paint in gloss white?

Thanks for lookin'

Best wishes,
Wes

I read somewhere a while ago that white Kilz is one of the most reflective white paints. You might try that.

I'm not sure if gloss over matte really matters where reflectivity is concerned, so either gloss or matte would probably be fine. You just want the whitest white you can get.

I also read somewhere that Porter Paints are supposed to be yellow resistant. But I think its a gimick to sell some paint.

High Gloss certainly has reflective value over a matt finish.

Just my thoghts.

Thanks for the input.

You know, I hadn't thought to be sure that the paint was resistant to yellowing. That will certainly cut down on light reflectivity after a while, especially if UV lights are being used.

Do you have any references to back up the high gloss over matte part? I'm just curious. Certainly high gloss is shinier, but it's the color that matters when reflectivity is concerned.

I think the meaning was lost a little in my post the word "over" was meant to read as "opposed to" instead of "to cover"

Sorry for the missunderstanding.

So the reading should sound more like this:

High Gloss certainly has reflective value as opposed to a matt finish.

Best wishes,
Wes

I understood you just fine. I knew that you meant "as opposed to". I'm sorry that you misunderstood me. What I meant was, do you have any reference to point to that indicates that the gloss of the paint makes it more or less reflective?

The enamel is probably a better way to go, simply because it will better stand the test of time.

I will be separating out the 10 gallon aquarium soon. Upgrading it to a 20 long.

the 125 Gallon will be a complete terrarium I plan to make an isolated water feature in there to help with humidity.

Just trying to figure that part out right now.

Thank for lookin'

Best wishes,
Wes

I have dismantled the 10 gallon tank and will remove it from the Terraium over the next few days. The Flora and Fauna have been rehomed to a 20 Long except for the Glow light tetras of which have had a dreadful demise. 15 fatalities . It a long story that began with a three hour drive. Too sad to reherse. I made a few mistakes. I knew better too.

Anyway, The 20 is up. No pix. Camera sucks ..... I hate my camera ...:duh:

The area of the 10 Gallon will house a waterfall. Working out the plans for it. It gonna be a DIY thing.

Any ideas for a black basin that can hold about 3 gallons of water? Rectangle would ge best round woud be ok.

Thanks for lookin'

Best wishes,
Wes
