Hi Everyone!

I joined a while ago, but this is my first post. My name is Stacie, and I live in Katy, TX (suburb of Houston) with my hubby, our dog Speck (Border Collie mix), and my Tiger Oscar Pepino Rodrigo Serrano Gonzales.

Pepino is in a 75 gallon tank, his home since July. Prior to that, I had him in a 36 gallon, but he quickly outgrew that. And he's doubled in size since being moved to the 75 gallon. He recently killed his only tankmate, a giant Pleco that until then, he had not bothered at all. So, no more tankmates for him.

Here are some pictures: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=126443&id=565908842&l=02ee42dc12

His main diet now is live earthworms, and occasionally frozen blood worm. I recently set up a 1 gallon tank on the shelf below his tank, and am trying to breed ramshorn snails for him, just as some variety. This is a recent project (this wee), so no baby snails yet.

Anyway, I look forward to reading various threads and seeing what others are doing with their aquariums!

Later! Stacie

Welcome! Love his name and he looks great! My oscar is named Captain Crankypants (sounds like he shares his love of killing tankmates with yours). I hope you enjoy the community!

Thanks! I named him that awhile after I'd gotten him. It was the anniversary of the Muppets, and I had read a story on CNN.com about the "history" of some of the characters. Pepe the King Prawn is my favorite Muppet, and his full name is Pepino Rodrigo Serrano Gonzales.....so I stole it! :)

You are wise to not have any tankmates in with your oscar. A 55 gallon tank is a minimum size for a full grown oscar. Oscars generate a lot of waste so be sure to do weekly water changes. Also, do not get caught up in the feeder goldfish thing. Try freeze dried krill, pellets, etc.
