HI all. I posted an introduction under the bracksih section, but no one really read there, so I'm going to post one here too. I've been posting a lot of threads in the past couple days since joining, so you may have seen me around, but now here's who I am.
My name is Emily and I live in Iowa. I work at a LPS, actually it is a chain, but we are a very good store, and often better than some of the non-chain stores, and miles better than our competitor chain. If all our stores followed the proper guidelines for animal care, we'd all be great, but I know that doesn't always happen, and I know in many stores people give bad fish advice. Not so in our store. (mostly cause we've got a lot of fish people who work there, and associates aren't afraid to ask one of us for advice if they dont' know the answer to a question. The big thing we are taught, is to be honest if we don't know the answer to something and then find someone (or a book or something) that has the answer. THis is much better than making up wrong advice). I am owned by a black cat named Dawsee, and I also am a parent of a leopard tortoise who is currently living with my mom. If I ever decide I have room for him in my place, there may be a custody battle
.
Now for the watery stuff:
I am currently running a 5g w/ three female bettas (soon to be moved to a 20g (I think))
a 20g w/ live plants, and guppies and panda cories
a 29 g with p. bridgesii (the only apple snail that doesn't eat plants. It is the smallest of applesnails reaching golf ball size), in Dark Striped purple, Light striped purple, Ivory, Blue, Jade, Wild. I've also got some egg clutches that will hopefully hatch soon. These guys are breeding. And one male betta. (and a few live plants..)
a 38g with a pair of kribs, 9 orange von rio and 5 harlequin rasboras. I plan to add four more rasboras, and probably call it done. I've got live plants there too.
All my tanks have either biowheels or cannister filters.
I am setting up (as we speak more or oless)
1 50g freshwater snail tank with some community type fish. Probably some Kuhli loaches (the only kind that won't hurt snails), and I'm not sure what else, but My guppies may go here or in the 29g tank wth their cories.
1 50g brackish with Zebra nerites and black and silver mollies and one other fish for a splas of color in a black and white themed tank
1 65 g planted tank (we're talking fully planted with great lights and CO2 and all) with Angels and some loaches of some sort. Probaly three clowns.
1 65g african cichlid tank (probably male only, mostly peacock and a few SMALLER haps)
I've got an empty 10g and an empty 5g, but I'm getting rid of all tanks less than 20g. I also have a new 25g (got it on my double employee discount day, couldn't pass it up--30% off of $50, with hood and light) I'm either going to use this tank or the 20g as a hospital quarrantine tank. I plan to fishless cycle, and add all the new fish at once, so unless they all come from different sources I dont really see a quarrantine need, as they are the first fish (the only issue would be potential bioligical filtration mess up if I have to dose an entire tank with meds...), but I do want a hospital tank for serious meds etc. And, I proabably wont' be able to get all my fish at once, so then I Will have to quarrantine as well.
So, thats a little about me, and my land friends as well as my fishy friends. I'm excited about my new set-ups, they are much larger than what I have now, but by no means large. However, since I live in a studio apartment, it's hard to fit in more.... At least I'm on the first floor!
