Invert update with baby snail teaser

jeez that's a huge amount of snailors. almost a frightening amount. how do you keep up with feeding? :eek3:
Luckily for me, and the snails, I am a stay at home mom. I make lots of jello and only cook from scratch for my family, so they get lots of fresh veggie "scraps". The babies are just over a week old (in the breeder trap dogpile pic). I have shipped out most of the other juveniles that were of appropriate size and just have 3 adult breeders in a 30g tank. I do 50% wc's every other day for now and also have the tank planted. So far so good.

LOL thats alot

I know! but I only got through 4 or 5 people on the waiting list and the first 50 snails were gone. Hoping that trend continues and people don't run out of patience or I will have to come up with plan B, lol.

What colors are your breeders to get all colors out of them? Do all mystery snails do that? I just had one gold for my daughter but recently added a chestnut and the gold has been piggy back ever since - I hope they have snail babies! I saw some pictures of your other babies (kids) in the mugshots - they are cute too.

Well, when I started my breeding "project", I had 1 purple striped male, 1 burgundy female, and 1 magenta female, and 1 purple female. I have since sold the purples for cash (as I have a couple babies growing out, and COUNTLESS clutches). There is a heritability calculator. Here is a link to a thread about color probability as well: http://www.applesnail.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18519&highlight=color+colour+chart

To be perfectly honest, most of my offspring don't fall into the percentages offered by any calculator available. I basically got about 40% chestnut/gold striped, 30% magenta, and about 30% mixed between ivory, blue, and dark purple from my snails.

Thanks for the link. I found another that helped me identify the actual colors of my snails Dad (Butterfly) is golden, and mom (Birdseye) is striped yellow. This link helped on the colors:

Then I looked at the links you gave and found the "Color Inheritence Applet" http://www.angelfire.com/va/myevolution/snails/applet/color_cross.htm

Which gives you not percentages, but at least the possible colors that can come from the parents. With the golden and striped yellow I'm supposed to get golden, ivory, light striped purple, red-white, and striped yellow.

If I have babies we'll find out! Though I haven't found a picture of what red-white looks like and didn't see it on the color thingy I listed first.

Since the Mystery snails lay their eggs above the water level, what kind of breeding setup do you have? Just curious. I had one of my snails crawl out of the tank through the opening that would normally be for a heater and it ended up on the floor. I'm assuming it was trying to come out of the water to lay eggs? The snail is okay by the way.
