I have a 5 gal hex I plan on stocking with cherry shrimp, and already has a brig apple snail . Any other inverts that could go in with them? I've thought about tiger shrimp or dwarf crayfish. Any other options? Suggestions?

I wouldn't recommend a clam for anything less than 20g. Actually, I'm not sure I'd recommend a clam at all. Mine certainly don't add much to the tank, and they're not always easy to feed.

The crays would likely eat the snail, don't know about tiger shrimp. Maybe another type of snail?

That's good to know paperdragon. I also wish I knew where to get a tiger shrimp.

How about ember tetras? I suggested guppies earlier, but people said they would eat the shrimp. Embers are tiny though, only .75 inch long.

As for tanks did you check craigslist? Don't see why you can't score one fairly cheap.
I wouldn't recommend much for a 5 gallon either. I'm beginning to worry my 10 gallons will be overcrowded in no time & they just contain shrimp, plants, and my hitchhiker snails.
