Iridescent shark... what to do??

I've never heard of a ID shark getting over 8-9" in length. I know of someone that had a pair for 6 years (from the time he got them) and they only got about 8-8.5" long. I haven't seen him since he moved about a year ago. SO I don't know how big they are now. But they hadn't grown any after about 3.5 yrs. They are awesome. And I agree that they need a lot bigger tank. But that particular fish shouldn't get any bigger then 9". But for sure give them to a good home.

Our Irridescent is at least 28" and still growing....

Here ya go Jestarr.. Your friend probably stunted it's growth, this is why you rarely see them bigger in home aquariums.

Holy S*** I never thought I'd see one that big. Thanks for helping me out with that. Now I know a little more. And you know the one on that. "If you stop learing your dead" I'm fighting cancer right now and winning so I don't like to think about dead. That's one huge ID

Umm.. to my knowledge there is only one Iridescent shark and it is a catfish not a shark at all.. Never heard what your claiming. Although if you do put one in a 55 then chances are it's max growth with be to 12".

There are two different types of iridescent sharks.
Iridescent shark: 40" in length
Iridescent shark catfish: 12" inch (max aquarium size), and 36" in the wild.
If you have the catfish, then you need atleast 55 gallons but if you have the shark, you need 1000+ gallons.

Ok, I'm talking Pangasius Catfish when refering to "an Iridesecent shark"... and never in a million years should that thing be housed in a 55. One I'm currently trying to get rid of is 13.5 inches or so. The y axis of the tank a 55 is only 12.5 inches, he has to bend his tail to turn around. In order to do water changes I have to have all the lights off for many many hours and only clean portions of the tank that are completely away from him or he starts shooting back and forth and running his head into the side of the tank. These fish are not suited for home aquaria in the least. Last water change I did he managed to completely take off one of his fins (growing back quite nicely). I know the poor guy is stunted severely (he's at least 10 years old, should be 3 feet or so at least by now)

people, stop suggesting this fish. On top of everything no LFS's (at least around me) will take the guy once they do outgrow your tank.
