i don't like the idea of that kind of gap at all. the iron stand i have for my 75g does that, and i'm gonna build a wooden stand that fits the tank all around the edges.
Just a word of warning--the lower tank will be harder to siphon, the bucket won't be much lower than the tank. Maybe a Python would help. It can also be hard to see small fish that low. We got tired of having to sit on the floor to see the fish & PITA maintenance.
Yeah...I have a python. Wouldn't have large tanks without one. It will probably be a 16" high 30 Gallon but I will do a test run with siphoning water from a bucket at that level with the python to make sure I have enought suction.
I have to ask another question now...I started a new thred also. How much rock (On Egg Crate) could I safely add to a 55 Gallon tank on an iron stand. I bought 290 lbs of NY Blue Rock but I'm not going to use it all. How much do you all think is safe?
Concrete blocks-- I had thought of that before & forgotten since I quit using the stands. Just set up a q tank on 1 & again thought of stacking & it's problems. Thanks coupedefleur.
thats the same exact type of stand i bought for my 75 and the play in the middle has really spooked me. i guess i'll give it a try while its cycling, ive got insurance..
