I know iron is important and is included in the trace elements. I am using Florish right now. I have also read about some people dosing extra iron through Florish Iron or similar products.

I was wondering if you could put a nail in your tank and let it rust away to get extra iron. Or would this over dose, or even be the wrong kind of iron (if I rember right way back form chemistry there are differnt kinds of iron ions).

I think that's the non-chelated kind of iron that you don't want. You want chelated iron like what's in spinach. :)

Yep, it has to be cheleated for the plants to utilize it. I do dose extra iron (our water is devoid of everything useful) But as a general rule most folks don't really need to. I would get some Iron Cheleat from gregg watson and try dosing small amounts in conjunction with your traces. If you see improvement in plant growth great if not then you probably already have enough iron and can sell your leftovers. There are test kits made, but they don't recieve very good reviews with the experts.
