irresponsible fishkeepers part 2: helping

As jpappy noted, the conversion to SW will be quite a wake up call. When you have $5 fish floating, it's bad, but when you have $50 and $100 fish floating, that really hurts. It's obvious that he wouldn't have the discipline to be even a little be successful with SW, so it will likely serve as his exit point to the hobby, after dropping a grand or two.
pssst...that was elementkid not me:lipssealedsmilie:

but yeah I agree with that.

Maybe visit with his parents, and have a chat? Maybe take THEM to a fish store and show them the prices of sw fish? Maybe they'll give their own heads a shake, and talk to their son? When they see the dollar and cents side of things, they might just take a stand. Parents don't like seeing their money go to waste.

Yep when he starts seeing his expensive fish die and it hits him deep in his pockets it will wake him up but until then I feel sorry for his fish. I just don't get why he doesn't understand that the current conditions he has his fish under now isn't right it is not that hard to do regular maintenance for your fish. You are doing all you can just step away and let him make his own mistakes when he realizes how much money he is losing he will wake up.

Honestly, I don't know about this...I think it depends just how rich and spoiled he is. If he's rich enough, he'll see the $50 toy of a fish that stays pretty for a couple months as a lot better investment then the pretty $100,000 toy car that he wrecks in a month.

Perspective is different for those with money...
