Irresponsible options at your LFS

i have seen baby alligators for sale for $150 at one of my lfs. they also had a 500 tank to house a 3 ft alligator, i mean come on now, who wants a pet alligator??
As I mentioned before I work in a fish store, and I have a customer who has two alligators.

Stingrays

But I think the thing that bothers me more than the fish options, are the big tanks of goldfish that are stocked so heavily that the fish can barely swim at all. It makes me really sad.

Hahahahha, I saw a guy trying to sell 8 inch alligator gars and arowanas saying they'll stay that size... I looked him in the eye and I said "you realize the gar needs about 900 gallons when its fully-sized right?" and he says "yea, just don't tell those guys overthere, they want one"

That's lame that someone would do that, but even a 900gallon tank...

Alas, not even close. Let's assume that we can get our alligator gar to a large adult size, 9ft long being a reasonable estimate. A tank that is 10ft x 3ft x 4ft is about 900 US gallons. That's just enough room to keep the fish wet, that's no swimming or even turning-around space. It would be something along the lines of putting a pike cichlid in a 5 1/2 gallon tank.
