my Goldfishes? I know they prefer cool water temperatures, but the weather here in NJ has been in the 90's the past 2 days and my A/C is not working.

The temperature in my house is pretty unbearable for me and I've noticed my tank water is above 80. I'm looking at Wednesday for getting the A/C guy out here to hopefully fix the A/C system.

Can the fishes survive in that temp for a few more days?

Thanks ~d

They'll be fine.
If they start gasping for oxygen, then up the aeration a bit.

Uhhh, up the aeration?? I don't think I have that option on my filter.

He means turn up the air.

If you have an air pump turn it on or put it at full blast.
Also you can lower your water level a bit under the filter output so it will splash more.

Oh okay thanks! I don't have an air pump...I lowered the water level a bit and it's splashing now.

Thanks! ~d

If they start gasping for air I'd do two things, run out and get a air pump and start running an airstone in the tank, as well as add Hydrogen Peroxide, its very useful to several things, including raise the oxygen level in the water. It should only be used as a temporary solution though, make sure its only a 35% solution, I believe most of the over the counter stuff is, and use 1 capful per 15 gallons. Temps of 80 will eventually kill the goldfish, they are just too high for them to survive in long, 2-3 weeks is max in my opinion, what it does is causes their metabolism to sky rocket, and drastically lowers their life span.

Okay - I'll get an airpump, it's good to have running anyway right? And by Hydrogen Peroxide - you mean the stuff in the brown bottle that I use on boo-boos?? It's fizzes up when you pour it on the skin?? THAT Hydrogen Peroxide??

The AC guy is here as we type. He just needed to charge the freon. Ahh, it's cooling down in here already!

Thanks for all of the great help... as usual I knew I could count on youz guys!

goldfish are really hardy. but I would be carefull about having the tank at 80 degrees for long periods of time. remember that they are coldwater fish and some tropical fish don't like it that warm!
