Is aquarium salt safe to use with Bettas?

My tank does have a filter with extra bio-media.

I agree with Jpappy - just keep up the water changes and feed him well and his fins will be fine.

Outa curiousity is he in with any other fish?

Edit: Checked out your blog, he aint got no companions - The tail split may have been done through a few things - Flaring; it can damage their fins when puffing up (Sorta forgot the reason to be honest lol, but its happened to my own a few times)
ornaments; any of the seashells/rocks got points he could snag himself on?
Attacking himself; Stress

and are you sure its finrot?
If his tail was damaged and is now regrowing, the new tail comes back transparent (sometimes milky at the base where colour is developing). just throwing 1-2 things out there :)

regular rock salt is what i use but i use it at a ratio of 1 tsp per 5 galons of water. also go to the lfs and get ya some amquelle, its excelent for preventing secondary infection. its got malalucha oil in it and works kind of like methialade or mecurecrome(sp?) does for humans..lol. u know that burning red stuff mom used to put on scrapes when you was a kid! the directions for it are on the bottle. it wont hurt the tanks cycling, but if you have an air bubbler it makes those ALOT more bubbly..lol. im having issues with my 55g ciclid tank now and am using salt and melafix to keep it from spreading. thought it was bacterial n treated the tank(aparently not quite long enough) then when that didnt work i treated for fungal thinking "oh i must have been wrong, its fungus!" .... nope! i should have treated the bacterial for a longer time so im giving them a break because the tank has had something in it for almost 2 months, now! good luck with the fins, and OH....feed him some frozen bloodworms too. theyre higher in protein than freezedried n no swim bladder stuff to worry about. this will help him recover faster im purty sure.(yep...redneck here lol) anywho, fins take awhile to regrow so be patient.

Melafix isn't entirely safe for bettas. I'd just keep up daily large water changes - that's all that's really necessary for finrot.

I hear ya on slow regrowth.. My betta is currently housed on his own after he managed to get himself beaten up real bad. Tail was bitten down a little too close to the base for my likings (had a depressing 10-20% of his tail left) he's now back to 75% or so. good diet and regular water changes ftw.
