I am considering ordering Hikari Lionhead and also Wheat Germ as an alternate feed. Does anyone have experience with them?

The bag sure is pretty awesome looking though I must say, but is it really worth the extra dollars over the other usual brands you can find at most pet stores?

My main point of interest is color of the fish, not so much the wen growth, but there are way cheaper brands to choose from that claims to enhance color as well.

The best way to enhance the colour is to put them into green water.

I don't like Hikari Wheatgerm. I checked the ingredients and it doesn't seem something you'd want for goldies with heavily compressed organs such as ryukins otherwise the likes of comets and shubs should be fine. It contains plenty of starch-based ingredients that would result in buoyancy disorders. I stick to Hikari Lionhead as it is sinking. Your best alternatives are natural foods such as plants and bloodworms and then homemade gel foods. Check Mazuri 5M70 for young goldfish. It's gel food. All you need is make it into gelatin and cut a portion to feed the fish.

If you really want color enhancement, you'd need green water as Corrie correctly pointed out. It does enhance the color of the fish. A lot of goldfish enthusiasts encourage green water in their tanks for this reason but some like me would prefer doing this in the pond for aesthetic reasons. I live in tropical climate myself so the direct sunlight is a bonus.

I've always like Hikari products. I'm sure there are better products out there, but my fish always seem to go for Hikari before any other pellets I throw in there.

My goldies eat tetra pond and love it. Tried mixing the two and they like tetra. My plecos don't like cheap wafers and they cloud my water hikari is the way to go.
