I have a bunch of X-Ray tetras. The oldest female has eggs. For the past 2-3 weeks she looks like a 4 week pregnant guppy. I tried a big water change with colder water and none of the fish tried to spawn. The first time I tried she didn't have as many eggs, but the only male in the tank tried to spawn with her.

Is it bad for her/the eggs if she has them too long?

Those are pristella's? I'm guessing they're the red-belly variety... Try doing a water change with RO water if you have a machine or just pouring in the water jugs from the grocery store.

Yeah, they are red bellys. I have never really liked any of the other varieties too much, plus I think my area has a regular and gold variety breeder.

So would RO/Grocery store water would have a better effect on breeding than water that is like 6 degrees cooler?
