Hi, I am setting up a new 10 gallon aquarium. It's going to be mostly for shrimp with a few tetras maybe. Still waiting to get my flourite before I start to cycle it. But I was wondering, I have a piece of driftwood with some Java moss growing on it in an established 75 gallon aquarium. That I would like to add to the new tank.

Is there ANY chance of introducing any harmful things into the new tank if I do that?

Thanks!

If the fish are sick or have been sick recently I would say either dont do it or hardcore boil the wood. IMHO, I would boil the wood anyways before putting it in another tank.

if it is still in your established 75, you shouldnt see any problems moving it over. it would be essentially the same as putting old media in your tank
I agree, it should be fine. Especially if you don't have any fish in your new tank yet. I'm assuming that you will be doing lots of water changes before you add new fish just in case. Also, I'm assuming that your established 75 is healthy right?

Perfectly fine provided no current problem with that tank. DO NOT BOIL IT and ruin all the beneficial stuff there.

i move wood between my tanks all the time

As long as your existing tank is healthy then it's actually a GOOD idea to move some ornaments or stuff into the new tank. They will be covered with benefical cycle bacteria and will help speed up the cycling of the new tank.

Only time you would not want to do it is if your old tank had Ich or some other nasty pox that you wouldn't want to transfer to the new tank.
