The following statment is nothing more than personal opinion and beleif:

Of all types of meat i've eaten, the ones that swim are my favorite. Especially raw with a little too much wasabi (not sure if the wasabi makes the fish more or less intellegent though) The idea tha intellegence should even make a diference in whether or not we eat something caused me to laugh until my sides cramped. I've spent a good bit of time working with Hogs in my life and there are only a handful of animals smarter than a walking pork chop.

I love fish - both in my tank, and on my plate. My husband and I agree that one of the best fish dishes on Earth is freshly caught pike or perch filleted beside the lake and cooked within the hour over a campfire. Mmmmm.
I admire the commitment and energy people put into healthy veganism, I have a friend who's recently become a vegetarian and heading towards becoming vegan. I respect her views, and she respects mine. I like it that way :D

have you heard of mercury poisoning?

Yup I have, I've also heard of mad cows disease, e-coli, botulism (sp), mutiple possible diseases from crustaceans/ mollusks, raw fish, rare beef, I've heard of trichonosis (sp again) distemper, rabies, salmonella (sp boy this is tough) If you read the truth about the mercury contents in fish and use some sensable practices it isn't at all difficult to avoid any real danger and eat fish to your hearts content. The United States has become a scare tatic and lawsuit ridden world where isolated and extremely minimal issues are glorified to seem like serious problems. People may chose to eat and beleive what they want but I personally refuse to go through life scared of everything the media wants to scare me with. I won't be filing a suit against a sushi bar when I get sick, and it irritates me to have to read the liability waivers everywhere I go. I try to eat fish at least 5 meals a week as well. and limit red meat to breakfast and the occasional beef shashimi appetizer at the sushi bar. I don't eat racoon during distemper season, I cook ground beef very well, and eat my steaks very rare. I eat raw oysters a couple times a week if I can as well. I never fish in lakes or rivers that are at the high end of the mercury warnings, and don't eat large predator fish in large quantities. But the way mercury concentrations work, there is really far less danger than the warnings indicate. the warnings are designed to absolve doctors, dieticians and Fish and Game departments of any possible liability for the 1 in 1 million problem that will arise.

Just my 2 cents worth, eat what your are comfortable with and be happy.

Fresh water fishes are nasty. Tilpia, snakeheads, bass, trout are disgusting. But saltwater fishes such as halibut, sea bass, cod, swordfish are the shiz-nits.

I love seafood and I'd eat practically any fish thats edible. I go off-shore fishing usually twice a month and I've been fishing for several years now, so it makes me think how people can think that fish are disgusting. Just went to Santa Cruz island a week ago and caught a lot of bonito. I don't really see any downsides eating fish since they give out a lot of good nutrients.

I would go as far as to say that as a general rule I much prefer saltwater fish, and am also partial to coldwater fish. however as long as it's fresh I enjoy it. and walleye, perch, bluegill, and yes Catfish are among my favorites from freshwater. I never liked catfish until I met some people who knew how to handle and prepare it though. Freshwater bass is not one of my favorites at all. But pickled Pike beats herring any day, so I pickle a lot of Pike.
