I bought a used tank from a guy and am going to use it as my first SW tank. The tank is most likely 10-15 years old. He had a hang on overflow, but I'm kinda scared of those and my landlord lives below me, so I'm thinking of drilling it and building a overflow with PVC. Is there a way to tell if the side panes are tempered? I know the bottom usually is.

Building a new stand for it now, so want to get it drilled and done in the next two weeks so when I move to the new apartment I can set it up.

Thanks as always,
J

Theoretically you are supposed to be able to see a mottled appearance with polarized sunglasses if it is tempered. So if you look with glasses and see a big diff between the bottom and sides you can go from there.

hit it with a hammer........if it breaks into small pieces it tempered, if it breaks into big pieces it not.............good luck.
