Is Melafix or Pimafix bad for snails and shrimp?

Is Melafix or Pimafix bad for snails or shrimp?

My Platy has a bit of fungus on his tail and I started treating with Melafix/Pimafix thinking it was safe for inverts. but after dosing this morning some of the snails have moved to the top of the tank. I need to check the water params, will do that now, but I don't expect them to be out of the safe limits. Just thought I would check with you all in the meantime.

I think melafix in half dose is o.k. for snails but not sure about pimafix. If they are all at the water line something is bothering them. Do you have a different tank or something they can go in until you are done treating? Or a bucket or something they can be put into? Just make sure the water stays at a decent temperature for them and you change water often until they can go back into the tank.

I remember reading somewhere (applesnail.net maybe?) that some snails will tolerate a little melafix and some won't. I have never tried it so I cannot say for sure but I would move them if at all possible.

Hopefully someone with more experience will be along to help you soon. Just thought I would try to help until then.

i believe both Melafix or Pimafix are safe for inverts.

Hello again, just checked the water and found 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, and ~10 Nitrates, so the water seems ok. I'll probably do a pwc tonight to keep the Nitrates in check.

They are not all at the water line, just seemed strange that as soon as I dosed, two went straight for the top (small blue and purple), the Ivory has been up there all morning (she may be preparing to lay her eggs). My Ivory and Purple are still hanging around the water line, but the others are all below sleeping or otherwise moving around the tank.

Tomorrow when I dose the tank, I will dilute it first and see if I get the same reaction. I went with this method because others had said it was safe for inverts, and it doesn't seem to have slowed down the pond snail population one bit.

I have some baby snails in my tank, and have been dosing pimafix and melafix, and the snails seem to be doing just fine.

you should see my racing snail he's not only getting big very fast, he himself, is super fast.

I know melafix is safe for rcs cause i've used it myself with no probs. although i have always heard pimafix can b a bit rough on them.Maybe someone out there has a bottle of pimafix on hand and can type the instructions to you i just checked for my bottle i must have used it all.
