I have a 75 gallon tank in my recently constructed room, we tore down a sun-room and put my room on it but its not on solid ground, theres a concrete outline of the foundation then we created a new floor with wood. the stand and tank arent all that heavy, but i did the math and filled with water alone it will weigh about 860 pounds. does anyone else have experience with a floor like this, anyone unlucky enough to have experienced a cave in? everyone is telling me it will be fine but i want to be sure. i have a 45 gallon tank in my living room thatb is above my basement and it is fine, somone reassure me......

i keep a 75g on my first floor above a basement, with nothing but the regular floor joists supporting, and it's just fine.

honestly, with new construction, the only real fears are going to be at 150+ gallons.

that article helped alot, my floor is contructed with regular floor joists i think 2x16s im gonna ask my step dad if theres anyhitng else i should take into consideration before filling it thanks!

i have a 72 gallon in a built-in bookcase. I had a contractor come out and cut out the bottom shelf, build a frame, put the shelf back in and re-drywall and paint. He said its should hold well over 1000 lbs.

Its not much different than a water bed on the second floor. As long as the weight is distributed evenly and level, it should be OK.

You sure about the 2x16s? Those are some big joists. Anyway...at 16" apart if in deed 16s then no worries. Heck...even 2x10s at 16" will be sufficient for a 75.

I would guess that 16 is a typo for 2x6 16" on center. 2x6 are under sized depending on the span I need to know more about the construction. To offer you a proper answer.

2x8s at 16 O/C would suffice....
