I just purchased a 55 gallon tank to put my common pleco, two 2inch long clown loaches inside.

I was planning to put 2 more loaches and a blood parrot ciclid with a few snails to help the sandy substrate sifted.

Is this tank over crowded?

Clown loaches should have at least a 150 gal as they get huge and need groups.

And common plecos get massive and ideally need 200gal tank or pond

Gonna say you may want an upgrade within the next few months :)

Yes, cause the pleco will grow to 20" and the clown loaches to 12".

Im going to say they need a 5 foot tank. So a 150 isn't needed. It is a great size but isn't needed. Never the less, a 55 isn't big enough.

agreed. But id say you could get away with a 150 although a pond is ideal.

agreed.

Glad to see you again!
I agree that the clown loaches need a very long tank.
common Plecos can get up to 24” in some cases so they need a MASSIVE tank or a pond ideally.

You have good taste in fish though, but they will for sure need something bigger.

Loaches and plecos are great fish, and clown loaches are very fun fish

Let me just preface the clown loaches are no more than an inch currently and the common pleco about 3 inches.

And the tank 4 and a half feet wide

But they grow very fast (the pleco) and are active (loaches) and the extra foot of space is valuable.

Plus, these fish get large and the width of the current tank would be too small for these fish to turn around properly and comfortably. The loaches especially need a good sized footprint in a tank.

And plecos have some monstrous bioloads, you will find yourself eventually having issues with water quality in a smaller tank and you may end up having to do daily water changes worst case just to keep your nitrates under 40 because of it.

Thats why itd be wise to upgrade to the proper size within the next few months. Not saying run out and get it tomorrow, as they will live in it fine temporarily as a grow out, but it wont work past a couple months sadly. These are some very hefty fish.

If a 150gal+ isnt doable, an option would be to find a home once these fish get too large for this tank. Some people do this too.

Then afterwards, get some similar but smaller fish.

Yoyo loaches and a bristlenose pleco would make a fantastic group for a 50+ ;)
