is my mollie pregnant

i purchased a female mollie she was in with males when i got her but i do not have any males in my tank. i have had her for 5 weeks. She has become aggresive towards the other fish and begs for food constantly. she has gotten large in her abdomen and has a dark red spot near her vent or whatever you call it. i m not sure im new at this. do you think she could be pregnant? i was told then can carry sperm from males and there fore reproduce with out a male weeks after the male is removed. up to three batches. is this true?

mollies come from most stores pregnant.. she will deliver fry about every month.. Keep checking your tank

Livebearers can store sperm for several months. My platy girl has been separated from the male for two months and she's been giving birth every few weeks.

Driving me nuts :)

Anyone want a 2.5g full of platy babies? ;)

This is so weird! I've had my platies since about October, and haven't seen any fry yet. Of all the fish in the store, I had to get the only celibate ones. :P

(Of course, having said that and tempted fate, all of my lady platies will now get preggers all at once and my tank will be over run with mini-platies. >_<)

i also was wondering about my tank size and inhabitants. I have a 20 gal tank ive had about 2 months i have 2 guppies 1mollie a alge eater and a fantail goldfish. i had acomet in there but after reading here i have transfered him to a friends 150 gal tankwhich is home to only one other fish. when i went to the pet store they told me fish only grow to the size of there tank again i found out this is wronge. i dont know if this tank will be ok for my fantail and alge eater. im not sure what hes called it starts with a p. my tempature is at 76.i have my water tested at petsmart. i was told it is fine. should i move my fantail and alge eater or are they okay? and how can i reduce my mollies aggresion? i did not have a computer when i first got the fish i wish i would have. my pets store is obviously not to bright. :help:

It's a pleco i guess, it WILL grow up to be quite of a monster, i once had one that was about 1 1/2 inch and it grew up to be a 8 inch dude, so yeah, be worried about him 'cause i also had him in a 20g tank. QT the mollie by the way, a maternity will work just ok, you shouldn't worry about the fan tail, this fish will adapt to the required space he/she has.
 
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't fantail goldfish coldwater fish? The guppies and the molly will get along just fine, but I know for a fact that they require warmer water than fancy goldfish are comfortable with. Thus, if I am correct in my assumption that fantail goldfish are a coldwater species like other goldfish, I would not advise keeping it with your other fish.

Also, try doing a little research online and compare pictures of common plecos with the algae eater you have. If your fish is indeed a common plecostomus catfish, consider maybe taking it back to the fish store soon before it gets very large (which it will, and quickly!). If you're looking for something to help clean up algae in the tank, perhaps you could look into getting a couple of otocinclus catfish, some amano shrimp or Chinese algae eaters. Bear in mind, though, that no fish can replace a little elbow grease when it comes to clean up!
