Hey like the title says I would like to confirm if my neon tetra is pregnant I can't distinguish if it's overweight or not but it's clearly the biggest out of them all. Also I would like to see which of these are males and how many females do I have, just a number on each gender will be fine if ya know how to tell : ) also? tips of caring for it's young? I found once potential mate for her if it's a male that is, it looks the strongest and definitely the biggest in the tank, how many eggs to expect? Any recipes for fry? Thank you for any help possible male for pairing is in second pic closest to the camera, last photo was when i first got them in a 50 litre to contrast the sizes.

Here is the picture to contrast from the 50 litre bridge and gravel substrate compared to the sand ones I have now, note non of these seem bloated

Egg-scatterers are never pregnant. She may be carrying eggs, but more likely it's just the normal dimorphism--females are a bit larger, and rounder looking compared to the males. If you want to breed, you'll need a dedicated setup. Neon tetras will scatter eggs along plants/substrate. If the eggs aren't eaten, fry will hatch out and feed on infusoria.

Yeah, tetras are not super easy to breed & especially to raise fry. A mix of genders is fun to watch...but call that good. Neons are so inexpensive to buy it doesn't make sense to do all the work required to rear them. That said, I had a friend's accidentally home bred lemon tetras to 3 generations...but not for me & my tank set up, that's ok too.

I would qualify that to 'it isn't easy to do in a community setup'. Many tetras are quite easily bred at home if you provide a dedicated setup with lots of plants and a source of appropriate foods. I've raised a number of them in a tub outside over the summer, where there is an abundance of live foods to condition the parents as well as feed the fry.

Hey thanks all for the advice hey are all taken note of, I've currently ordered around 400-600 Java moss seeds and wondering if they grow in a sand and the nano nutrient clay gravel thing mixed together? Anyways I'm setting back up my 50 litre I have a spare filter airstone and heater at the ready. What substrate would you guys reccomend for the breeding or should I make a makeshift breeding mop? Anyways here's an update pic on her I just took her out of the water for a sec and placed her in a bucket (used to grow the 30 gallons duckweed) show you guys, is she healthy you guys here's a side and birds eye view on her? what happens if I were to leave her without setting up the 50 (of course I won't do this I wanna get some neon fry and relieve her of the weight of the eggs) will she hold in the eggs or release them sorta like a fish period...? Thanks all for the input : )

Neons scatter spawn--the female will release a few eggs at a time and the males swim behind and release milt to fertilize them.

No clue what you ordered, but java moss doesn't form seeds.

No clue what that is. It might be a seed, but there isn't anything called 'java moss grass', mosses don't form roots like grasses do. They will attach to objects, but it's a different mechanism than roots. There are a few grass like aquarium plants, but getting seeds from them is more complex than is worth the effort, particularly when so many plants are cultured via tissue much more readily.

In short...I don't know what you are getting. Probably seeds, but not for a moss. Possibly for an aquatic plant, but not likely.
