is my ram sick?

I don't think you have completed cycling, and with the possibility of a stressed fish and moving from the lfs.....

Please get that master test kit that will cover you on nitrites and nitrates.

he's been in teh tank for a while i'm not sure moving from teh lfs is what caused it...
as for the master test kit that's $30, and seeing as i'm 17...that's no small amount.
i have ph and ammonia now, and i'm gonna order nitrate and nitrite, that covers the important bases.
gonna get nitrate and nitrite checked now.

how long do oyu think i should leave it before adding more?
i wanna get 2 bolivian rams, hardier, and almost as nice and fun

get your test results before considering any new fish.

your water may be good but without the tests it is difficult to asses the situation.

what is your water change schedule like?

How long have you had your shrimp? If they're doing well, then I think your cycling is just fine. Shrimp are way more sensitive to NH3, NO2 and NO3 than fish.

Blue Rams can be very delicate depending on the source. I've had great experiences with wild Rams and locally bred Rams. I've had horrible experiences with Rams bred in the far east.

Another important item is temperature. I wouldn't keep Rams under 80F and prefer to keep them at 82F or higher. If your temperature was too low, that could have added to the problem.

So, don't rush out to buy test kits just yet.

actually, test kit would be a wise investment.
if you have a petsmart near you they usually price match. print the website price and bring the flyer in ..i believe the master test kit is on sale for 20.99

I wouldn't have taken him out and put him in a bowl, if he didn't eat IN the tank then he certainly wasn't going to eat OUT. Taking him out probably stressed him out over his limit and he died. I'm not saying he wouldn't have died anyway, but taking him out probably pushed him over the edge.

Even MORE important that ammonia is nitrite, so do what you can to get at least that test kit. I know it's expensive, I understand trust me. But the good news is those liquid test kits last forever.

i got a 10 dollar all in one test kit. maybe not the best, but it'll work
here are the results:
nitrate: ~20 ppm
nitrite: 0-.5 ppm
GH: about 75, probly a little less
KH: 80-90 ppm (less than ideal but not super bad)
ph: as above mentioned, about a 7-7.1

okay there she is

thanks so muc
