Is putting salt in an aquarium helpful?

You are correct, there is little alkalinity in our water, and we have trouble buffering it.

thought so... me too... let's party!! lol.

remember that we at petsmart tend to do things differently and recommend things for alternative motives... why salt? because it is an add on sale that increases a stores sales and so forth.

why so much in our systems? we have to try to control ich in 100's of tanks and we have to try to get a middle ground of salinty for our mix of fish (brackish and fresh...).

while this may be ok for some fish, this will be the demise of others. There are fish that are ultra sensitive to prolonged exposure to salts in the water. And that is from experience. You should be careful when trying this method as it depends on what's in the tank.

Which is why I only recommend it for nitrite poisoning and parasite control :)



Question, I get to be a lead this summer, any tips for managing my friends who didn't get promoted and new responsibilities?
 
it's tough... just set the example and make sure you're up to par with p&p's... if u have a good manager, learn as much as you can... a good manager is one who gets their associates promoted... and promotions = good for you... so you'll have to work together as a team. a good lead can run the dept w/o the manager being there, so my best advice is to learn EVERYTHING you can about anything you can.

and as far as managing friends, it's not easy. if they're good friends they'll understand that you have a job to do and responsibilities to take care of.
 
Nope, not a good manager. When I was away at school this summer, they would IM me the weights of the birds and baby lizards we got so they knew how much to feed and when to wean etc, had to coach them through the new drip acclimating policies over the phone etc.

Oh well lol. I will just have to brush up on P&Ps.

i have a pet care manager worse than that so i transfered out of the dept and became the pet products manager... lol... psm has a policy of making non-pet care managers/associates go up through the ranks and throw them into pet care w/o knowing a thing and it really kills us and our reputation. she is leaving (thank god) and i think i'm going to get her job (finally, i was promised that position a year ago before she came in to the store!).
