I recommend buying one of the fish clips that sticks to your tank glass. its like 2 bucks. the silver dollars generally don't eat veges off the surface. Give them lettuce, cucumbers, zuccini. they love that.
my silver dollars will eat anything though, I try to give them a decent vegetable base, but they love brine shrimp, bloodworms, pellets, you name it.
