if anybody has had good experiences with making homemade tank covers with plastic or some Plexiglas or something. any help would be great.

Oh there are several canopy threads. But I have made a few plexiglass lids for my shrimp tanks. I just measured the size, and cut the plexi to fit. used some 3M double sided tape to attach the hinges.. I made the back section bigger than the front, (I didnt cut it down the middle) Maybe I should take some pix..

I get glass cut at the hardware store for tanks that need glass tops.

btw i moved this to FW DIY...you should get some more views here than in the BW forum.

Concur that window pane glass cut at Lowes is probubly the least expansive expensive, especilly since they always have left over remnants. Pexiglass is very expensive mostly becasue you have to buy a 4x3 sheet $50 and there is almost never any remnants. also Plexiglas acts like wood in that it warps when exposed to one side being wet and one side dry and you have to flip it over to counter the affect every week or it will bow allot.
