is there a way to build a cheap tank cover instead of buying an expensive light cover

Mine are made from scrap polycarbonate from sign jobs.
If I had to buy material, it would probably be cheaper to buy glass.

But you know, you have to use what you have right?

ok, you know how those school lights have that plastic cover.. those big fluorescent lights.. i think a 4 foot sheet cost like 6 bucks at home depot..
like the clear plastic thing in the picture

really easy to cut.. and doesn't effect the lighting..

The local one to me is a True Value Home Center. The home depot near me doesn't cut glass, and there isn't a local lowes.

I've gotten glass cut for anything from a 15gal up through a 150gal. To get two pieces that are about 8x24 is like 8 bucks, then i get those little peel and stick hooks for the kitchen and bathroom to use as handles. I don't bother using hinges, i just pick the front glass up and slide it on top of the back glass.
