Is there any reason that you couldn't create a tidal tank? With the proper plumbing and timers to bring the tide in and out?

Absoulutley I have seen this before. Dont ask me how to set it up but I know it can be done. Google it or I think someone of reefcentral may have done this or have knowledge of it
Search "Wavebox" on youtube to see some in action. Requires quite a bit of "empty" space at the top of your tank for the waves to happen. Not exactly "tidal" that corresponds with tides.. actually, never seen a reef tank that FULLY simulated high/low tides because I don't know anyone willing to keep their corals out of the water for a couple hours each day for low tide that happens in nature.
basically the one I saw was set up with two tanks. The dispaly tank and then a tank to hold the exess water. There were two pumps on timers. One would suck the water out then the other would pump it back in later on. The pumps flow rate was controlled so not all the water would be taken out right away. and vise versa
I have a mudskipper tank and they are tidal. I am going to think on this. Thank you for your imput.
