i think i may have stumbled upon a good deal, but i'd like some of yalls opinion. i found a 12 gal nanocube dx complete with stand, live rock (about 15-20 lbs) and live sand, all for 125 bucks. the guy sent me pics, and the only thing wrong with it is he said a fan needs replacing, and there's an algae outbreak (but i can take care of that no problem). it sounds like a good deal to me, as i could turn it into another tank, or i could use it as a QT with just some permanent invert residents. what do yall think? here are some pics...

Holy bryopsis batman! (or is that hair?)

It is a decent deal. I'd not use the sand, want to definitely get a handle on the algae on the rock, find out the history of the tank, and I'd not use rock in a QT tank.
 
well, i decided to get the tank. i got the fella down to $110, which is a lot cheaper than i'd pay for one new. he had also upgraded the pump to a maxijet 1200, so that's a plus. the live rock alone i'm getting with the tank would cost me about the same price i'm paying for the whole tank....so i'm cool with the algae problem. any suggestions on how to take care of it? i know about taking it out and scrubbing the rock, but what inverts/fish inparticular would help me get/keep it under control?
 
well, i purchased the tank. the guy i bought it from was extremely nice, and he actually ended up selling it to me for 80 bucks!! so i got a nanocube with the pump upgraded to a maxijet 1200, the stand, live sand, ~20 lbs of live rock, and even a couple of snails for just 80 bucks. is that a deal or what? the rock alone would have set me back anywhere betwen 100 and 200 bucks. anyways, now i'm going to focus on getting the algae taken care of. i just put everything in the tank for now, and i'm letting the water clear up a bit. thanks for the suggestoins guys! i'm gonna leave the tank fallow for a little while at least. i'll put some inverts in there to help clen up the algae. can you keep some type of sand-sifting goby in a 12 g nano? i think the twin-spot gobies are pretty small, but i'm not experienced in this yet... thanks guys, your opinions are always appreciated and valued.
 
i think the algae in there is hair, not bryopsis. there's no "fern-like" qualities to this algae. what are the best eaters of hair?? snails, lawnmowers, nudis??
 
Tangs... But that won't help in that size tank.

I wonder about an Algae Blenny?

Thing is, getting something to eat it will leave that "something" hungry soon.

Personally I love nice green algae as long as it stays short and bright green. Not the matting, rapid growing, dark green, hideous stuff. Unfortunately my Tang(was (s)) just scour everything for the nice algae and then leave the hideous stuff.

lawnmowers, hermits, seahares, lettuce nudi are a few, with the lawnmowers being able to adapt easily to eating from a clip once the hair algae is gone.
