Is this a good idea?

I have a nice healthy 29 gallon community tank for about 4 months. I'm in the process of setting up a new 75 gallon cichlid tank. I plan to seed the new tank with gravel and filter media from the first tank to jumpstart it. On the new tank I'm having both a canister filter and an AC110 HOB filter. Would it be a good idea to put the AC110 which I have now on the 29 gallon tank (in addition to the Emperor filter for a week or so and then moving it over to the new tank? Seems like it would be a good idea but thought I'd ask if I'm missing something that might be a problem. Thanks

It would help but the current from the extra filters may be simply to much for the fish in the 29g tank. The gravel is what will hold a good amount of what you will need for the new 75g. If you will not be using the 29g then taking what you can from it and putting it in the75g will give a big jumpstart.

How are you planning to cycle the new tank?

Adding filters to an established tank does nothing to increase the bacteria. All it does is spread them out. The size of the colonies is a function of their food supply (bio-load) and oxygen.
