Is this algae or a hydra

Unless you're breeding fish in the tank the only place that Hydra are a problem is between your ears! Relax there are lots of worse things to worry about! They're easy to get rid of and harmless to all but the tiniest fish.

The only thing in the tank are pest snails, assassin snails, and red cherry shrimp. Something tells me that the aren't too good for the red cherry shrimp shrimplets when they first hatch. I was wondering why I haven't been seeing more shrimp in the tank, especially since I have 5 or 6 berried shrimp at a time with tons of saddled shrimp in the tank at the same time. Hence, I think I'm going to have to deal with this problem instead of just letting it clear up on its own.

Congrats! Hydra usually only survive in pristine water conditions.

I feel so lucky now. Yep, the water conditions in this 29 gallon tank are pretty good. I do weekly 50% water changes and I have a Fluval 405 filtering the tank, along with a lot of plants that help to keep the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels rather low. To think I was just about to start using RO water on it too. I'm sure the hydra would love that. LOL

Cutting back feeding & good gravel vacs should work but if you need a faster response or if that doesn't work check this out Dewormer to kill planria & hydra. Also google it & you'll find tons more results. I bought the safe-guard dewormer at DFS but have not used it yet. Good luck to you!

EDIT- Forgot to mention, excellent photo skills there! :)

Thanks for the link to the dog dewormer. I actually looked over that topic thoroughly about a month ago because I have/had planaria in a yellow shrimp tank but I cut back the feedings and they seem to have gone away. Granted, I have seen 2 berried females in that tank and have yet to see a baby yellow shrimp, so maybe they are still a problem. Since I have to get the dewormer for the 29 gallon tank, I'm just going to use it on the 10 gallon too. Might even use it on the 20 gallon tank, but that one is somewhat new and I haven't been feeding the MTS too much, or at least I don't think I have.

It took me a while to figure out how to use my camera, but now that I have the hang of it I can take some pretty good pics. Thanks for the compliment.
