Is this an aquatic plant?

I got this plant as a gift that I'm sure many of you have seen in stores like Walmart. It's just called "lucky bamboo" and isn't fully identified on the tag except that the tag says it isn't actually bamboo lol.

Every time I've seen it it is completely immersed in water only and sometimes water and carbon (i think it is carbon anyway) so can the plant be fully submerged? The bottom of the stalk just has small stringy roots coming out of it and larger ones I've seen have the same thing just a lot more, just stringy roots that tangle all up.

It would be great if this was fully aquatic. Or even if it was fine just floating somehow. Thanks for any info and here's a couple pics.

It's a Dracaena (lucky bamboo). Not a true aquatic at all. It grows best potted (in soil), actually.
You could put it in a HOB filter w/Hydroton for nitrate export.

Oh that's an interesting idea. My girlfriend and I are wanting to plant our tanks at some point (probably plant hers as soon as it is setup and cycled and switch mine down the road) and I had done some light reading and I thought it was pretty interesting that plants help with getting rid of nitrates which, in certain setups, people have used exclusively over water changes. I don't ever plan on being at that level but the idea of having a plant in a HOB for nitrate export sounds really cool.

You think it will just root itself in the blue pad or is there something more that needs to be done?

Edit: oh nevermind I see you mentioned hydroton. I'll have to look into that

I would place the Hydroton in a mesh media bag (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=14166) since it has a tendency to float. It would make it much easier to move things around or for cleaning purposes. Just plant the dracaena in the open end of the bag then tie it off around the base of the plant.

I use to love this plant but I found out that if a human or cats somehow eats it they can get sick from it. I no longer keep it. It just says human eating it. But I wonder if a kid or baby eats it. I used it in a Firebellied toad setup, but as others have said; it's not a good aquarium plant.

maybe pothos would be a better option. i havent got a trimming to grow out of my filter as of yet though.
