My Green Severums suddenly appeared to have a grayich slime coat and the next day I could see whitish pustuals (definately not "ick"". It looks like
there are white hairlike things around the fish. Is this anchor worm? I want to know how to treat the whole tank(55 gal) with other cichlids, silver dollars and a large Bala Shark.

A mature female anchor worm will appear as a short, creamish colored "worm" with 2 shorter "tails" (egg sacs) sticking out the end. The film you see on your fish may just be its slime coating being thickened up and possibly shed to help protect it.

In my experience the best way to deal with anchor worms is to physically remove the adults and treat the water for any laravae. I use tweezers to pull the worms off the fish and immediately use a topical disinfectant such as iodine or mecurichrome to treat the wound. I also treated the water with Jungle parasite guard and have had good results with it.

Good luck.
