anybody have experience with this particular product? would it be good for a co2 noob? it would be going on a 55, moderately planted. no idea on light wattage, but just the normal flourescents you usually get with a 55 tank and stand kit at, for example, Petsmart.

It's essentially the same thing as a DIY yeast system. Almost certainly won't do much for a 55g unless you have several of them running. With stock lighting on a tank that size, most likely you won't see much difference using CO2 anyway.

after consideration, i have decided to not do co2 at all and just use lighting and ferts to make my tank look good.

so now i ask, what ferts are best?

With that low of lighting you should only need minimal ferts. Seachem makes a good line.

Careful with ferts W/O CO2.

1) If you have "low" light and no CO2 you do not NEED much in ferts (none maybe OK too).
2) Increase light and ferts but no CO2 is the start of algae.
3) and yes, that CO2 system is OK for 20 gal or smaller only.

so if my tank has been planted for about three weeks or so and i'm seeing new growth on all the plants already then i probably don't need any co2 or ferts anyway?

I would at least use Flourish Excel...one cap a day. That is all I used on my 55G and it was nuts!
