I saw this stuff growing on my coral in my 5g tank does brown algae grow on coral? Is it normal for this to happen? The coral was white now it's all discolored should I leave it alone can I wash it off? Help is appreciated.

Looks like Diatoms (brown algae) to me too. New tank? If so, this is normal - Therew are a few methods to get it removed.

otocinclus love brn algae(diatom) most plecs skip it.

is it a real coral skeleton? Or just an ornament? If it is an ornament it may have silicates (what brown algae feeds off). Just scrub it off, it should go away with time.

yeah i agree about the algae eater, dont get one.

yeah but otocinculus (the algae eater that is below 2 inches) are fragile and will quickly eat out the algae in this tank. Plus they do better in groups. I dont see whats so difficult scrubing algae once a week. One day the algae will go away when there are no more silicates to eat or when greed algae takes over (green algae looks quite nice)
