It also depends what you've got in the filter - if you have lots of media designed for biological filtration (the little 'stars' made by Rena or bio-max, etc.) one XP3 should be fine for your tank even if it's a bit overstocked.
I would agree with Blinky. With the right media that should be enough filtration... I think I'm only getting about a 400% turnover with my current 50g setup, but with the media I have in it, and possibly because it's a wet/dry setup, it's doing an excellent job...
