Being new to this aquarium keeping, I just wanted to know if anyone has seen this type of filter setup, It is built into the hood of the aquarium. Filter medium is a strip of filter sponge (Not quite a sponge but looks more like fibre glass wool) and rough small stones. I was wondering if this is any good. The tank is 120 litres (+- 33 g). I have put in an extra corner unit with charcoal and filter wool. The water stays clear with just the top filter but I thought the charcoal filter would also help in keeping the water clear. I currently have 15 fish in the tank. Cycling has finished and the fish appear to be happy. Always hungry and active.

With the extra filter, you should be ok...general rule of thumb is to try to move the total volume of water through your filter(s) 10 times per hour. Check the specs on your filters and see where you are. Keep up with the water changes ,too! Good luck!
