Is this light worth it?

I've seen these on e-bay, and my thoughts were, they are just low bay lights, and use a cheap magnetic ballast.. they never show a picture of the ballsts..
but the reflectors seem nice... and i would guess that the bulbs are not the greatest reef bulbs...since a good reef bulb is $50 alone..

I agree. It probably uses a hulking industrial magnetic core and coil ballast. Additionally, that reflector that they rave about is terrible. The fact that it has open ends and a parabolic facet alone tells me that. It can't even compare to the better reflectors out there. As for the bulbs, I'd want a brand name so that I could check and compare PAR/PPFD levels of each one.

thanks guys......With all the reading Ive done on this board I had a feeling it was too good to be true.

if your looking for an inexpensive retro, you can do one yourself pretty cheap...about $100 each for good electronic ballasts, $50 for bulbs, and the wiring, mogul sockets etc, are very cheap.. the tough thing to find is a nice reflector that fits your application...but plan on having about $200 in each metal halide you build...
