Is this low lighting?

I have a tank that is 5 gallons, its dimensions are 10in high, 7.5inch wide, 16 inch long. I have a 8watt flourescent tube lighting this is it enough to grow low light plants such as ferns and anubias.

Also if I wanted to make it a high lighted tank what type of wattage would I need?

I have 26 watts over my 5.5 gallon and it behaves like a low light tank.

the power compact screw in bulbs are making easy to get cheap and lots of light into small tanks. they now make up to 42watt bulbs.

Yes and what Rex is trying to tell you is that increasing the light will be difficult in a small tank. You could grow java fern in that tank easily. You could find some and just stick it in there to begin with. There are a mnumber of crytocoryne that would do well but they can be a bit tricky. Petsmart always seem to have a few cryts. You won’t have to add anything to the tank to begin with. If the crypts loose their leaves cut off the melting ones and wait a bit. Sometimes they seem to just need to adjust.
