is this safe?

not sure about that but i myself wouldnt trust it. i got a product made by AGA and it says aquarium safe. it costs like 5 bucks for a 3 oz tube of it. check your LFS, they should have it

If it is 100% silicone, it's fine. There are many that contain anti-mildew and algae toxins, and these are not aquarium safe.

I've used 100% silicone sealant to glue rockwork together with no ill effect. Fish tank sealant is overpriced, just like everything else in the animal husbandry hobby.

River Rock at lfs: $2.00 per pound
River Rock at Landscaping Supply Store: $0.09 per pound

1/2 in silicone tubing at lfs: $0.79/ft
1/2 in silicone tubing at Hardware Store: $0.20/ft

Sand at lfs: $1.00/pound
Sand at Hardware Store: $0.10/pound

Knowing your getting screwed at lfs: Priceless

I do not have it with me now; so I will have to check on the brand and about the mildew. The fish store here is way over priced. I just wanted to make some rock work for my tank.

Thanks

I went to a hardware store and they sold stuff that said specifically for aquariums, and it was cheaper than the stuff at my LFS. When I was looking for stuff, alot of the bottles I looked at said 100% silicone on the front, but once I looked at the ingredients there were other things listed, so I just wasn't comfortable buying it!

On the back it says:

Contains:
Poly (dimethysiloxane) 70131-67-8
Mineral oil 64742-46-7
Amorphous silica 631-86-9
ethyl triacetoxysilane 17689-77-9
Methyl triacetoxysilane 4253-34-3

I don't think I will be using it. I did not realize all the stuff they put into it. I thought it was 100% pure. I will go to the hardware store and look if they have the stuff for a aquarium.
