I am trying to make some spray bars in my tank and wanted to use 3/4 inch black tubing, the only thing I can find in lowes and homedepo is flexible pvc, and I wasnt sure if its safe cause it gives off this smell that regular hard pvc piped dont.

Not sure. Flex PVC is not rated safe for potable water, so ordinarily that would mean it is not safe for aquaria. However, this site claims this is merely due to the plasticky flavor it imparts to the water, which does not involve any toxins. I would play it safe and use something else.

There's nothing stopping you from using regular PVC and spraypainting it black. Sand the surface of the pipe first to help the paint adhere.

Krylon Fusion for Plastics is tank-safe. You can also use interior-grade latex house paint or acrylic artists' paint.
