It Ate My Fish!

I have 53 apple snails at the moment and if a fish dies they will eat it, otherwise a fish would have to be sick/dying/defenseless or just plain stupid to be eaten. The 50 pea sized (really large peas anyway!) apple snails did however eat a whole batch of cory fry. Of course the cory fry were 1 hour old and just sat around until a snail crawled over them and ate them.
I guess that would fall under both the defensless and stupid catagorys. :)

Yeah, I don't think that the snail ate a live fish. I'm really trying to think of a senerio where a snail could take over a fish and none are coming to mind. The only way I see it happening is if the snail containd a powerful poison. Then the fish might nibble on it, die, and then be eaten. Apple snails don't contain poison as far as I know. As far as the radula thing. The second that they touched the fish, he would be gone.

An apple snail could not kill a fish. If anything it would maybe start consuming the fish if it was on its death bed and totally unable to swim. VERY few snails are predatory and the ones that are consume other snails and slow moving animals. They all will eat eggs. A couple kinds of ocean snails have a poisonous spear in which they can catch fish, but not apple snails. They fish either died and got partially eaten by the snail, sucked up into the filter, or it jumped out.

I couldn't imagine a snail eating a fish! How coudl it even get to it? I'm sure the fish would have swum away before it coudl get it. Maybe the fish was already dead or dieing when the snail ate it?

Yes, I have posted them here a few times. If you can't find them I will post some more.
