IT has BEGUN!!!

Cool as long as your happy my friend that's all that counts but if you're like me you will wish you had hehehe..

Are you thinking in any particular tangs for the 55gal?

Ok...so I just did some research on Tangs...I'll be sticking to the smaller shellies like the juli's or the lampro. Since the juli's tend to get larger (4-6") i'll probably just make the 75 a tang tank, the 130 the malwi tank, and the 55 will stay my ram/community tank....which is currently being terrorized by my demonsi....

Oh a new update on those little buggers!

both of my ram pairs have decided that it's spawning time.....the WERE permitting the demon's to claim the rocks as their own...however their tolerance has deminished, and the two spawning females have decided that its time to re-take the rocks as their territory.

So now i have my 5 rams chasing the 8 demon's away from the rocks.. Since the rock piles are at each end of the 55, the demon's go from one side to the other being chased away..so they have taken refuge in the large plant in the middle... I think this is good for them, as they have realized that there ARE fish bigger then them...in the past two days i haven't seem them go after anyone in the tank, and are even allowing the blood fins to swim in their plant...just not the rams.. lol

I am fasinated by their personalities...the really are funny to watch....and of course my rams hate me right now, so whenever I go into the tank, they nip at my fingers....never did that before..luckily the demons should be big enough to go into the 75.

SInce getting the Demonsi they have gone from 1" size..to about 1.5" in only three weeks, so they are growing quite well...they are pigs too... I think that i should be able to put them in the 75 by the end of the month/early feb. I'm looking for them to hit 2.5", at which point they will be two big for the 55.

If the terror levels don't stay where they are right now, I do have a 29 gallon tank on stand by for the rams, so worse case if things become bad I will move the rams into that tank.

I myself really want to get more rams...i have always wanted gold rams...so i might be trading my bolivians or if I move the community into the 75..i should have enough room for another pair or two of rams... and if i stay with the smaller shellies, i should be able to make a nice setup in the 55 without too much trouble...

Anyway back onto the topic of shellies:::

I like the juli's so they are a go, but I have been reading that they sometime do not play nice with other juli's. So i myself would be inclined to pick up the smaller 2" shellies the lampro's and have a few more peaceful juli's in there sorta as centerpieces...I was even thinking of desiging a "shelf" in the tank to increase floor area but we shall see...I'll have to dig more into the life of a shellie...

THe 130 though will be completely different thant he 75..it will have styrofoam rock works etc, with custom filtering to fit the rock work. If all goes as planned, i should have the ability to make the 130 perfect, taking everything I learned from the 75 and encorporting it into the 130.

So first thing that has to happen is to actually get the tank, from there it's going to get a custom stand, as A) it doesn't come with one and B) i have to keep the tank under 4.5'. The tanks going under a set of plate rails, so it will be interesting. I should be picking up the tank sunday, so with luck i'll have the stand built sunday. If not then i'll just make a makeshift stand while I work on making a nice one.

Oh another note..the 130 will be done slowly, as I don't have the resources I had for the 75...So as things progress, and as money allows i'll work on the 130...but that's ok, cause when it's done it should be perfect...i hope...lol

So yea suggestions on a 55 shellie and 75 shellie are great, From there i'll decide on what tank i want to use.... When i get closer to acutally building the shellie tank, i'll probably make a thread...or just use this one as a "all-in-one" thread.

You have some nice plans; so, go for them! Don't take the rams out of that tank; let them finish their breeding business and prepare the 75gal for the demasoni kids. Also, remember that julies are not true shellies; they are more rock dwellers I would say.

The problems with Julido's is that they will kill each other and it seems to be the consensus but i would aim for Julidochromis Transcriptus little more laid back and don't get as large as the others..

They prefer the rocky habitat but will peruse the shell fields.. I am getting a colony of Transcriptus in two weeks..

No!...Are you serious? Where are you going to put them? I hope it is not in your bath tub!

Well...I was thinkin actually of doing a multi's colonly...which should be just fine in the 55.

The rams finally spawned last night so everyone's on high alert, with luck some will survive again :)

I think you can have J. transcriptus with the multies in the 55gal. Let's wait to see what the Tangs guys have to say about it. Maybe you will not save that much of the multies fry.

HMMM efors i think i may end up using the bath tub after all amigo.. hehehe..

Hey rithunder i had a 55gal shellie and Julido setup at one time and it did great til i moved all the rock out.. Here was my lay out, standard 55gal, huge rock pile in the middle as a divider sorta tall rock pile, on the left side of the tank a shell field with a colony of 50+ Multi's, on the right side of the rock pile i had another shell field with about 10 Brevis and the middle rock pile is where my Breeding pair of Julido Transcript's were hanging out, all fish where ok as long as they didn't leave their perspective colony zones, there was a little aggression but it was understandable due to each species aggression range..

When i took out the rock pile everything went on a murder spree and i placed what was left in species setups..
